About
My
Practice

I have been in law practice since 1981, and in solo practice since 1986.   My objective has always been to provide one on one service to my clients at affordable rates.  My staff and I look forward to efficiently resolving the legal issues you bring to us and achieving your goals.

I received my law degree from the University of Denver in 1981, my Masters in Library Science from UCLA in 1974, and my BA in History from UC Santa Cruz in 1971.

IMMIGRATION

Immigration

A large part of my practice is in immigration, much of that for athletes. For the most part I work with tennis players, road runners and track & field athletes.  I also represent clients (athletes and non-athletes) interested in green cards for family members or for themselves.  Our services are available to clients around the globe, not just from Colorado.  I can help athletes qualify for the P1 or O1 visas (non-immigrant), and also for permanent residence (green card) based either upon employment or extraordinary ability in their fields.

I take pride in providing legal services in an efficient and personalized manner.  Please do not hesitate to contact me by phone, in writing, email, or from this website's contact page. I will gladly answer questions and discuss my services in greater depth. I look forward to speaking with you.

INTERNATIONAL ATHLETES

Services for International Athletes

Alternatively, for those athletes who can be described as having extraordinary ability in their sports, we can explore the possibility of obtaining green card status.  As you may know, the green card is issued on the basis of “extraordinary ability” meaning the athlete has received at least one major, internationally recognized award in his/her sport.  In the event such an award has not been received the athlete can show receipt of other less significant nationally or internationally recognized awards along with other evidence such as national team membership, publication of articles about him/her, high earnings through the sport or ranking by a recognized body such as World Athletics or Association of Tennis Professionals (for men) or Women’s Tennis Association (for women).

  • I have nearly 40 years experience representing non-American athletes and their agents and sometimes coaches in US immigration proceedings, with considerable success.

  • These are some of the services that I provide to athletes, their agents and managers that have an interest in obtaining valid immigration status for the athlete.

    • O-1 visa status (extraordinary ability)

    • P-1 visa status (allowed entrance for an event/competition)

      • The advantages of these statuses include:

  1. Unlimited entry and exit

  2. Multi-year validity

  3. No restrictions, as with B-1 and B-2 visas, on the income-producing activities of the athlete, so long as they are related to his/her athletic career.

  • While the O and P non-immigrant visa requirements are somewhat more complicated than for a short term temporary visa or ESTA entry, the results are far more conducive to achieving a stable immigration status that frees up the athlete’s energies. Rather than worrying about staying legal or planning flights back to their home country, the athlete will be freed up to focus on what is important. Training and competitions..

    • These visas can be for a term up to 5 years and are renewable for an additional 5 years (for the P-1) or 3 years (for the O1).

    • These terms can be attractive to potential sponsors

    • As a general rule, the process for applying for and obtaining P status is anywhere from three weeks to six weeks.

If you wish to consult with me about the appropriateness of a particular visa and the qualifications of you or your athlete, I would be happy to do so at no cost!

I will work directly with athletes or their managers, and even sponsors, in achieving the most advantageous immigration status for the athlete.
